$dd4|1-The best guitar sound ever
dun with a deaf ear by Mammoth/Syndicate
We`ve all been there, heard a song that sticks in our minds because of a
certain sound made by a particular instument and it sticks in your head
for years.
Well my favourite instrument is the guitar and I`ve heard many superb
sounds being coaxed from many a plank, but for me the best sound ever
was made by a certain Gary Numan on the Tubeway Army album from 1978.,
Why? Well give the album a listen and tell me whether or not it ROCKS!
I haven`t a clue how he got those fat flangy sounds but they sound
absolutely brilliant through a CD or the original tape version (like I
have!), from the intro to Listen to the Sirens through to Somethings in
the House (The two bar power riff in the middle especially) and the two
classics Steel and You plus The Dream Police the guitars keep coming at
you.
On my CD version theres a bonus track called Fadeout 1930s Era which is
the best of the lot, the main five Power chord riff which flows through
the song has to be heard to be believed. The guitar sounds on the whole
album are brilliant, I`ve tried replicating the sound but I cant get the
fat hollow sound that he got, if I had a Gibson Les Paul I might get a
bit nearer, but remember it was recorded in 1978 and technology has
changed somewhat. Amps and effects pedals have changed and sounds are
less muddy, wish I knew what Gary Numan used.
If anyone wants a copy of the album chuck me a C90 to the following

...and I`ll see wot I can do!

guitar sounds! I'm also a guitar nut. Kei]
